Texas Compliance Summit Sets New Standard

AUSTIN — Organizers of Texas Compliance Summit have announced that the conference, held last week at the Hilton Austin Airport, drew nearly 100 attendees and raised the bar for future events.

“All the events to date have been excellent, but I have to say that Texas Compliance Summit was the best yet,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom. “The agenda was incredibly comprehensive, all the speakers delivered memorable and informative presentations, and the crowd could not have been more engaged.”

The event began Monday, Nov. 16, with an evening reception and welcome address, followed by a full day of featured speakers and panel discussions. Highlights included sessions dedicated to actions taken by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state attorneys general, as well as compliance in sales, F&I and digital communications. The panels, which included four speakers who work in dealerships in Texas, Kansas and Colorado, tackled issues relating to the design, implementation and enforcement of compliant front-end processes. Karen Phillips, general counsel and executive vice president of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association (TADA), discussed truth in advertising, data sharing and factory relations.

Texas Compliance Summit also featured the debut of Auto Dealer Compliance, a new magazine dedicated to helping U.S. auto dealers keep up with the latest news, training tips and commentary from leading experts.

“Compliance is here to stay, and that’s not a bad thing,” Gesualdo said. “If we learned anything from the attorneys, trainers and dealers at Texas Compliance Summit, it’s that transparency and strict adherence to the law offers the clearest path to production in F&I and peace of mind for dealers and car buyers.”

‘Is It Compliant?’ to Cap Texas Compliance Summit

AUSTIN — Organizers of Texas Compliance Summit have announced that the event, which is scheduled for Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel, will conclude with “Is It Compliant?”, an open-forum discussion among speakers and attendees.

“’Is It Compliant?’ offers attendees the chance to pose any lingering questions to a diverse panel of speakers,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom. “It’s also a great opportunity for the dealers, compliance officers and F&I professionals in the crowd to share their own expertise.”

The panel will begin at 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Bob Harkins, vice president of training for American Guardian Warranty Services (AGWS) and the event’s master of ceremonies, will serve as moderator.

Harkins will be joined by Randy Henrick, associate general counsel for regulatory and compliance matters for Dealertrack; Karen Klees, credit compliance specialist for EFG Companies; Alessandro “Al” Meloni, a finance manager at Transwest Buick GMC Isuzu in Henderson, Colo.; Marla Rhen, vice president and compliance officer for San Antonio’s Gunn Auto Group; and David Robertson, executive director of the Association of Finance & Insurance Professionals (AFIP).

Rich Moore Joins Texas Compliance Summit

AUSTIN — Rich Moore, director of training for Protective Asset Protection, will serve as a featured speaker at Texas Compliance Summit, organizers said Thursday. The event is scheduled for Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport.

“Rich brings the same passion to his speaking engagements as he does to his training sessions and compliance webinars,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom. “His expertise in F&I and digital marketing is a welcome addition to our agenda.”

Moore has emerged as a leading voice among compliance trainers, advocating for a transparent sales and F&I process as well as regulatory compliance in dealership communications, including social media. He has delivered well-received presentations at Industry Summit and Agent Summit. This year, he helped launch a series of compliance webinars that has gained a following among auto dealers as well as RV and powersports dealers.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to join the team for the Texas Compliance Summit,” Moore said. “With the current emphasis on all things compliance, this is a great venue to ensure that your dealership team is doing things correctly.”

Moore’s presentation, “What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You,” will begin at 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, leading off the “Your Responsibilities” portion of the agenda. Other subject headings include “Rules and Regulations,” “Easy-to-Implement Processes and Controls” and “Is It Compliant?”, an open-forum discussion among Compliance Summit attendees and speakers.

Texas Compliance Summit to Feature ‘Your Responsibilities’ Panel

AUSTIN — Organizers of the upcoming Texas Compliance Summit have announced that Tariq Kamal, managing editor of Auto Dealer Today, will lead a panel discussion entitled “Leadership, Teamwork and Accountability” at the event, which will be held Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel.

“We are counting on Tariq and his panel to shift our focus from the theoretical aspects of front-end compliance to the practical application thereof,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of ADT and F&I and Showroom. “We expect a hard-hitting discussion that will result in useful strategies and advice.”

The panel, which falls under the “Your Responsibilities” portion of the agenda, will be staffed by dealership personnel and experts from the compliance and F&I training segments. Kamal helmed a similar panel at the Midwest Compliance Summit in April.

“In Chicago, the conversation ranged from state and federal regulations to econtracting, deal-jacket audits and the Better Business Bureau,” he said. “We will reconvene in November to deliver the compliance content Texas dealers need and demand.”

Registration for Texas Compliance Summit is open at the event’s website. Attendees who register on or before Oct. 26 will enjoy a $100 discount. Aaron Lunt to Join Texas Compliance Summit as Featured Speaker

AUSTIN — Organizers of the upcoming Texas Compliance Summit have announced that Aaron Lunt, assistant general counsel and head of regulatory affairs for The Warranty Group, will serve as a featured speaker at the event, which is scheduled for Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel.

“As regulators have applied increasing pressure to our industry, Aaron has emerged as a leading voice of reason,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom. “We are honored by his continued presence at our events.”

Lunt appeared as a panelist at Midwest Compliance Summit in April and delivered “The CFPB’s Impact on the F&I Industry,” the opening keynote address at September’s P&A Leadership Summit. Before joining The Warranty Group, Lunt, an Illinois-licensed attorney, handled a variety of insurance regulatory issues as an executive with a large commercial insurer.

“I’m honored to provide an update on the CFPB’s activities in the auto finance segment at the Texas Compliance Summit in November,” Lunt said. “The automotive industry is under increasing regulatory pressure — requiring manufacturers, dealers and service partners alike to evolve at a rapid pace. I look forward to an informative and interactive discussion with session attendees as we consider the risks and opportunities this evolution presents.”

Registration for Texas Compliance Summit is open at the event’s website. Attendees who register on or before Oct. 26 will enjoy a $100 discount. More information, including the full agenda, will be available soon.

TADA’s Karen Phillips to Speak at Texas Compliance Summit

AUSTIN — Karen Phillips, general counsel and executive vice president of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association (TADA), has agreed to serve as the featured luncheon speaker for the upcoming Texas Compliance Summit, organizers said Friday. The event is scheduled for Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport.

Phillips, who has served with TADA for more than 30 years, was the “first and only choice” for the speaking slot, according to David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom.

“To say Karen’s reputation precedes her would be an understatement,” Gesualdo said. “She has fought for the rights of Texas dealers — and car buyers — on a wide range of issues. We can’t wait to hear what she has to say about the current regulatory climate and what the future might bring.”

Phillips joined TADA after working for a law firm specializing in product liability and malpractice. Her tenure has included work on issues ranging from lemon laws, blue laws and warranty reimbursement to advertising, finance disclosures and vehicle inventory taxes.

“The franchised automobile retailer is the most optimistic and intrepid entrepreneur in today’s market,” Phillips said. “The everyday challenges for today’s dealer are vast and include numerous government mandates, consumer needs and factory demands. Sorting through the morass continues to be my pleasure.”

Registration for Texas Compliance Summit is open at the event’s website. Attendees who register on or before Oct. 26 will enjoy a $100 discount. More information about the event, including the full agenda, will be available soon.

‘Knowledge Is Power’ at Texas Compliance Summit

AUSTIN — Organizers of the upcoming Texas Compliance Summit have confirmed that “Knowledge Is Power,” a panel discussion led by Jim Ganther, president and CEO of Mosaic Compliance Services, will convene at the event, which is scheduled for Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel.

“The dealers and dealership personnel we meet in Austin will be there to learn,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom. “Jim Ganther and his panel will give them a crash course on the current regulatory climate.”

Ganther helmed similar panels in past Compliance Summits in Miami and Chicago, drawing participation from fellow attorneys and compliance experts as well as leading agents. “Knowledge Is Power” is part of the “Rules and Regulations” portion of the agenda and will be the first of three panel discussions. Other topic headings will include “Your Responsibilities,” “Easy-to-Implement Processes and Controls” and, finally, “Is It Compliant?,” an open-forum discussion between speakers and attendees.

Crisorio to Bring ‘Dealer Beware’ to Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Randy Crisorio, president and CEO of United Development Systems Inc. (UDS), will deliver the welcome address at the upcoming Texas Compliance Summit, organizers said Wednesday. The event is scheduled for Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport.

“Anyone who has seen Randy in action will understand why he is the ideal candidate to kick off Compliance Summit,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom. “He is as dedicated to front-end compliance as he is to dealer development, and he approaches the former with equal parts gravitas and humor.”

Crisorio’s address, “Dealer Beware,” will serve as the starting point for Texas Compliance Summit, which will begin with a reception on the evening of Monday, Nov. 16, and continue with a full slate of featured speakers and panel discussions the next day. Crisorio is expected to discuss the growing influence of regulators on dealer operations and review past actions taken by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state attorneys general.

“As the automotive dealership compliance culture continues to be shaped by regulatory curveballs, it is critically important that our retailers are informed and up to date on this moving landscape,” Crisorio said. “This is the third Compliance Summit, and as it moves across the country, it continues to pick up speed in interest and attendance as retailers need to know where the guardrails are. Those not in the know may well be in dangerous territory and not know it.”

Registration for Texas Compliance Summit is open at the event’s website. Attendees who register on or before Oct. 26 will enjoy a $100 discount. For sponsorship and exhibition opportunities, contact Eric Gesualdo via email hidden; JavaScript is required or at 727-612-8826.

Save the Date for Texas Compliance Summit

AUSTIN, Texas — Organizers of Compliance Summit have announced that the next event will be held Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel in Austin, Texas. It will be the third in a series that began in Miami last November and continued in Chicago in April.

“We could think of no other place we would rather take Compliance Summit than the Great State of Texas,” said David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Monthly and F&I and Showroom magazines. “If Texas dealers are as dedicated to front-end compliance as the folks we met in Miami and Chicago, this will be the biggest event in the series.”

The educational slate at the Florida and Midwest conferences included featured presentations and panel discussions on national and region-specific compliance topics, including threats and actions leveled by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as well as state attorneys general, legislators and consumer groups.

Speakers included dealership personnel, attorneys, compliance experts and the directors of a state dealer association and a Better Business Bureau chapter. Each session was punctuated or followed by questions from and discussions among attendees in the crowd.

“The dealers, compliance officers and managers who have attended Compliance Summit have all said they were there for one reason: to learn what the CFPB and other regulators are up to and what’s going to happen next,” Gesualdo said. “They left with the information they needed to put a plan in place to protect their dealerships and their customers.”

Registration for Texas Compliance Summit will open this summer. Further details will become available in the weeks ahead. For sponsorship and exhibition opportunities, contact Eric Gesualdo via email hidden; JavaScript is required or call 727-612-8826.
